Obituary for Marvelle Pearl Couey

Marvelle Pearl Couey
Marvelle Couey born July 31, 1918 to Leon Cabe and Anah Starbuck Cabe,.. Marvelle was born in Glenwood Springs. She passed to the valley beyond from her home on March 11, 2012. She lived on Divide Creek with 2 brothers, Charlie and Lyle Cabe, for 18 years. She married Tony Manuppella in 1935 and lived in Peach Valley until 1945. They then moved to New Castle with 2 sons, Michael (Born November 5, 1936) and Richard (Born January 15, 1938). They began a business called Tony's Recreation. Marvelle attended numerous football and basketball games, she also took the boys to many band concerts. Riding her horse, Storm, everyday was one of her greatest pleasures. She had 5 generations on the Manuppella side twice. Tony passed away in 1956.
In 1957 Marvelle met and married Jesse Wilbur Couey and had three children, Jacque, Kelly and JoAnne. They lived on the Family Ranch located on Mamm Creek. Marvelle's way of life included large gardens, beautiful flowers, canning fruits and vegetables and baking. She enjoyed her monthly Bridge Club. Marvelle's musical talents were legendary. She played the piano, accordion, organ and guitar. Marvelle played for many dances and get-togethers. The great thing about this was Marvelle taught herself how to play these instruments. Even with all this she had time to take care of her family and help Wilbur with the daily chores of ranching. She always enjoyed those chores because it meant that she got to spend time on her favorite horse, Storm. She had many favorite horses throughout her life, but none could compare to Storm in her eyes.
In 1977 Wilbur passed away and Marvelle was faced with the daunting task of operating and running the Family Ranch. Marvelle fought to preserve her family's way of life. She had numerous accomplishments in her life including; Rancher of the year, a life time member of the Holy Cross Cattleman Association and supporting the 4-H program. Marvelle was Grand Marshall of numerous parades including Rifle Apple Pie Days, Silt Hay Days and Burning Mountain Days.
Marvelle was preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Anah Cabe; a brother Charles Cabe; two husbands, Tony Manuppella and Wilber Couey; a son and two granddaughters, Richard, Lisa and Kari Gail Manuppella.
Marvelle is survived by a brother Lyle (Marge) Cabe; children Michael (Carol) Manuppella, Jacque (Levy) Burris, Kelly (Carrie) Couey, JoAnne Couey; grandchildren Tony (Gail), Mike, Scott (Dianne), Theresa and Kim Manuppella, Jesse (Jennifer), Earon (Jennifer), Erika, Dolores Burris, Tyrel, Clinton, Cassidy, Marvelle, Tanna and Cabe Couey; great-grandchildren Cole, Mike, Alexis, Sara, Justin and Kyle Manuppella, Jordan McCurley, Kailyn, Kiara Forsberg, Jordan, Kacie, Gabriel, Merri Lynn, Jacob, Jonathon and Erilyn Burris; great-great-granddaughters Mya, Katy and Karly Manuppella.
