Surrounded by his family, Ron (80) passed peacefully from this life at the Colorado State Veteran's Nursing Home in Rifle, Colorado on March 1, 2013. His family expresses its gratitude, for the outstanding care he received the last three years of his life at CSVNH.
Ron was born in Sullivan, Illinois and graduated from Sullivan High School in 1949. He began an apprenticeship as a draftsman in 1950 and attended the USN Technical School in San Francisco in 1952. In 1953, Ron joined the Air Force. He was honorably discharged in 1955 after breaking his leg playing football at the Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho. During the fall of 1955, he attended Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois, where he met Judith Storer. Ron and Judy were married for 18 years (1956-1974) and had four children.
Ron's career in architecture and construction management crisscrossed the country; from Illinois to Colorado, to North Carolina and Texas. He also owned and operated the 51 Lounge and Restaurant in Macon, Illinois for several years, managed the Meridian Precast & Granite Company in Waco, Texas, and managed the Elks Club in Telluride, Colorado.
Ron married Janet Ellen Metcalf in 1986. They lived happily together in Dalls and Rowlett, Texas until her death in 2005.
He will always be remembered for his love of family and friends, his generosity, and his big strong hands. He was larger than life, a hard-working man who loved to be outdoors, to work and play.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Gertrude (Davis) Newbould of Decatur, Illinois and his father Gerald Frank Newbould of Winter Park, Florida.
Ron is survived by his four children and their spouses; Doug & Denise Newbould of Soldotna, Alaska, Susan & Jon Sehler of Grand Junction, Colorado, Julie & Jack Kissell of Palisade, Colorado, and Rob & Karen Newbould of Grand Junction, Colorado; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; three step-children and their families; Pam Messenger of Miramar, Florida, Patty & Wade Griffin of Rowlett, Texas, and Sam & Debbie McKinney of Rowlett, Texas.
Ron's ashes will be placed in the Veteran's Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado at a later date this year.
