Obituary for Kendra Lynn Palmer

KENDRA LYNN PALMER
 
RIFLE, COLORADO – Kendra Lynn Palmer died at the age of 61 in Rifle, Colorado of Saturday, July 28, 2012.  She passed away at home with her husband by her side.
 
Kendra was born August 29, 1950 in Glenwood Springs, Colorado to Robert L. and Patricia Ament Simillion.  She was the third child in the family.
 
The family was living in Lafayette, Colorado where her father was a Colorado State Patrolman.  When Kendra was 2 her mother Patricia passed away with bulbar polio.  In order for her father to continue his work, Kendra and Alan lived with Grandmother Mary and Aunt Pamela in Glenwood Springs, Colorado.
 
Kendra completed kindergarten in Glenwood Springs.  Her father was transferred to Meeker, Colorado where he could be nearer his children.  He later married Dannette Arnold and the family was reunited.  Kendra completed her elementary education in Meeker.
 
Her father was then transferred to Steamboat Springs, Colorado where she attended Routt County Schools and graduated from Steamboat Springs High School
 
She was a cheerleader for the “Sailors” and participated in the gymnastics program.  She was an excellent skier and had many friends.  She served as Worthy Advisor of Rainbow Girls of the Elk Mountain Masonic Lodge No 118.
 
She attended Mesa College in Grand Junction, Colorado where she met and married Milt Parks.  They lived in Evergreen, Colorado in the Denver area.  They had one son, Robert Forrest Parks.  They later divorced.
 
She continued working in the Denver area until she moved to Carbondale, Colorado where she worked for the Mt. Sopris Water and Sewer District. She went on to become the manager of File Finders in Glenwood Springs and then managed the New Castle Senior Housing Complex.
 
While living in Carbondale, she met and married Douglas Joseph Palmer.  Together they enjoyed camping and the outdoors.  They were involved in the Carbondale VFW.
 
Kendra was a free spirit and loved to visit with her aunts and cousins in the area.  She had a wonderful smile and made friends easily.  She had a very tender heart and missed her two brothers who preceded her in death.  She kept her mothers picture near her in her room.
 
She loved watching the Food Channel on TV and became a very good cook creating some delicious meals.  She was a regular at any “Garage Sale” and loved to shop at vintage and second hand shops, always looking for a real deal.
 
Kendra is survived by her husband Douglas of Rifle, her father Robert L. Simillion and wife Carol of St. George, Utah, her Son Robert Forrest Parks and wife Tracy of Denver, Colorado, her grandchildren, Lilly, Garrett and Nick, numerous cousins and Uncle Walt Borla of Helper, Utah.  She also leaves behind her two cats, Meow Meow and Sammy.
 
She was preceded in death by her mother Patricia, brothers, Alan and Patrick, her sister, her stepmother Dannette, her grandparents, aunts and uncles.
 
Graveside Memorial services are planned for Saturday, August 11, 11:00 am at Rosebud Cemetery in Glenwood Springs.  She will be buried with her mother and sister Geri in the Glenwood Springs, Rose Bud Cemetery
 
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Rifle Funeral Home.
