Obituary for Bruce "Sonny" Mobley

Bruce “Sonny” Mobley, 89, of Meeker passed away January 2, 2013 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction.

He was born January 1, 1924, in Rio Blanco County to Chester & Helena Mobley. Bruce left his senior year of high school to serve his country and enlisted in the Army. During World War II, he was assigned to the 28th Airborne Special Force Tank Battalion where he fought in the Pacific Theater from August 4, 1943 through February 23, 1946. He was brought home in 1943 to attend to the death of his brother, after which he returned to the war to finish his service. During the war, Mary Yeakel and Bruce wrote letters to each other. They fell in love; and when he returned from the war they were married, July 28, 1949, at the Christian Church in Grand Junction. Bruce’s passion was his ranch; he & Mary loved caring for their sheep.

Bruce leaves behind his wife, Mary; daughters, Joline (Peter) Loostrom, Marcia (Curtis) Mechura, Cindy (Brian) Kerkstra & Crystal (James) Roberts; grandchildren, Joel, Danielle, Sidney, Jenni, Angeline, Serena, & Benjamin; and great-grandchildren, Grace, Elektra, Jacob & Joel.
